After a lackluster start saw Memphis fall behind 7-0, the Tigers dominated the Bulls from the middle of the first quarter on. Memphis outgained USF 560 total yards to just 170 for the school from Tampa. Memphis picked up 31 first downs compared to just 5 for Charlie Strong’s squad.
After hosting a raucous College Gameday on Beale Street Saturday Morning, the (#24) Memphis Tigers won a thriller in the Liberty Bowl, 54-48 over (#15) SMU.
In what we’re referring to as a “double bounce back game” here at The BarnBurner, Memphis responded to last week’s disappointing loss at Temple to pummel the Tulane Green Wave 47-17 at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening. Gainwell had a historic day, compiling stats the FBS hasn’t seen since 1997.
The Tigers rushed for 312 yards, with two 100-yard rushers and Brady White connected with 3 different receivers for each of his touchdown passes. The Memphis defense held South Alabama to just 3.8 yards per play in a strong performance from Adam Fuller’s unit.
