Today was supposed to be the day that we all worked for. The reason we got those reps in. The reason we watched all that film. The reason we stayed up watching UC Santa Barbara vs. Hawaii at the Devil’s hour. But as we know there is no tournament. That’s why we decided to give you a bonus episode. We interview Max Goren, the creator of the viral One Shining Moment video that’s been circulating on twitter. He gives us some context on the creation of the video, how he’s handling fame and we even talk a little NC State basketball.
AT LAAAASSSTTTT, THE BARNBURNER PODCAST NETWORK FORCE-TACKLES EPISODE IX AND… eh, I don’t know, just listen.
Welp. It happened. It actually happened. No NCAA tournament so naturally we discuss Coronavirus and how abrupt this ending really is. We give you a glimpse of what is to come with TICH in the offseason. Then we chat with NBA draft analyst, former NBA agent and former Arizona Wildcat, Matt Babcock. He gives us a fantastic look inside the draft evaluation process, his time at a big agency and thoughts on Sean Miller. We end the season with Where Am I? and Hugs. Thanks for the support all year, gang.
You know how at the end of every show we give out hugs? Well, TICH might be in need of a hug. With the news of fans not being allowed to enter stadiums during March Madness, the boys are downtrodden, hurt, befuddled, confused but most of all sad. We try to make sense of it all and try to identify if there are any silver linings in this. How will this impact your bracket? How will this impact your viewing habits? How will this impact your overall satisfaction with life? Hopefully we gave you some guidance. Then, we cheer up a bit as we welcome first timer and former Wisconsin basketball player, JD Wise, to the program to share some stories about his playing days and his thoughts on this current Wisconsin team. We cap it off with TWIT and Hugs.
We’re barreling into Selection Sunday but first, Taylor and Subbi revisit their preseason predictions. Some conferences were terrible, some weren’t so bad. Then, we make our Jerome Week 2 picks. This is when the big dogs come to play. Power conferences plus a lil LeVelle Moton. Also, have any of you heard the Christmas jingle, Dominick The Donkey? If not, take a listen and then once you have it in your head replace the name with Davide Moretti. Finally, we end the program with Where Am I? and Hugs
The crew gets together to talk about the Grizzlies historic back-to-back wins over Atlanta and Brooklyn on the road, why the loss to Dallas was expected, and the Chief goes on another epic rant. Zak has some interesting stats on the team since Jaren’s injury and Mase is given a few minutes to toot the horn of Josh Jackson. Also, the bench unit is still really, really good.
Big show ahead as The Shark has his cloggin’ shoes on after the Vols came back in Rupp. Can the Barnes boys hear their name come Gumbel time? Then we discuss some news and notes including an apology to Providence, Andy Kennedy’s molasses mouth and a “Vili” off. We need an Illinois/Seton Hall tournament game so that we get the Bezhanishvili/Mamukelashvili matchup we’ve all been craving. With March Madness comes absurd slogans and one liners on warm up shirts. We discuss the best of the past then Subbi quizzes the Shark to see if he can differentiate those slogans between a Lil Jon/EDM song. We also bring on the BarnBurner’s latest addition, Matt Alameda, who breaks down his college basketball fandom, his writing history and the state of college basketball in New Jersey. Finally, we bury the show with Where Am I? and Hugs
Zak and Sam come together with a collective sigh of relief to talk Grizzlies hoops:
– LA fans overrun the Forum and Sam petitions folks to have hometown pride
– Lakers game takeaways
– Reactions to the blowout of the Hawks
– Anthony Tolliver big showing in first game
– Twitter corner and Sam makes his picks for the rest of the season
Theatergoers. It’s the Holy Month. It’s March. Words cannot do it justice but you already know how great this journey we’re about to embark on truly is. First step? The Jerome. That’s right. The palate cleansing tournament that precedes the Big Daddy is officially here. We make our picks for Batch 1 of the conference tournaments with GREAT friend of the program but more importantly the Keeper Of The Jerome, Brendan O’Rourke. Then we end it with Hugs. As I type this out I’m just so damn aroused for this month. Enjoy it. We made it!
As our lead guard Subbi flies across the country, Taylor and the Shark review the weekend behind us, including Baylor, San Diego State and Gonzaga all going down. More importantly, we discuss bachelor party etiquette when you aren’t actually invited to the bachelor party but you live in the same town as the bachelor party. The Shark breaks down Tennessee basketball and Providence fans, while Taylor has a break down about Arizona basketball. We round it out with a plea to the Theater-goers: Can you please help us find Xavier Henry?
