Josh Minott commits to Memphis, giving Penny Hardaway his first player in the class of 2021

Early on Satuday morning, Josh Minott, a 4-star SF announced via his instagram that he was committing to the University of Memphis and coach Penny Hardaway.

Minott is a top-100 prospect in his class and the first commitment for Penny Hardaway. At the time Memphis started recruiting him, Minott was unranked. According to 247Sports, the pledge of the 6’8″ “big guard” gives Memphis the 45th ranked class for 2021.

Here is the scouting report on Minott from Travis Branham of 247Sports.

Offensively, Minott is at his best with the ball in his hands and making plays for others. He has a high IQ and feel for the game and to go with that he has impressive vision and passing ability. Minott can also score the ball at all three levels and the more consistent he becomes as a shooter, the more dynamic he will become in the half court.

Defensively, Minott is versatile and competes on this end. At this stage, he can already defend both wings spots. He uses his size and athleticism well on this end and consistently stays engaged on and off the ball to stay in front of his man, rebound and even come in from the help-side to contest and even block some shots.

Ultimately, Minott is a very good addition for the Tiger program. Minott is a high floor and a high ceiling prospect who impacts the game on both ends of the court in a variety of ways.
