Memphis adds veteran guard to the squad

We already know that Penny Hardaway has an incredibly talented team that will suit up for him in the fall. The Tigers have plenty of size with guys like James Wiseman, DJ Jeffries, Isaiah Maurice, and Malcolm Dandridge in the front court. Also, the back court is chock full of talent with returning guards Tyler Harris and Alex Lomax. Don’t forget about newcomers Damion Baugh and Lester Quinones. However, one thing that roster didn’t have was an upper class-man guard. But that issue might have been solved today.

On Saturday, highly sought-after graduate transfer Rayjon Tucker announced via Twitter that he will transfer to the University of Memphis. Tucker played 2 years at Florida Gulf Coast University and competed last year at the University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Tucker told Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog that he was not yet withdrawing his name from the NBA draft and that is his preferred path; but that if he does choose to stay in college, he will compete in Memphis for Penny Hardaway. Other schools that were after Tucker include Auburn and Kansas.

Rayjon is one of the more coveted grad transfers in this year’s class. He averaged 20.3 points per game last season at University of Arkansas Little Rock. This includes a 29 point outing against the Tigers inside FedExForum. Over the course of the season, Tucker shot 41% from three.
