Penny gets his first “outside” commit of 2019 in Lester Quinones

Yes, Penny Hardaway had already assembled a top 15 class for 2019. And yes, that class was solely constructed of Memphis-area guys. I say “was”, because on Friday that all changed when 4-star shooting guard Lester Quinones from New York committed to the University of Memphis.

This commitment did not take any analysts by surprise as crystal balls had been trending towards Memphis for several weeks.

Quinones will add good size and shooting to the Tigers’ back court. Memphis’ lost the majority of their three point shooting from last year, with the exception being guard Tyler Harris – who led the team in threes made last year. Quinones is expected to log big minutes for Penny’s team and his commitment bumped coach Hardaway’s 2019 recruiting class up from 11th in the nation to 5th.

Memphis Offers 2021 F Mason Miller

Houston High School (Memphis) sophomore – and the son of Memphis coach Mike Miller – Mason Miller received an offer from the University of Memphis yesterday. You don’t have to spend much time on Twitter to see that people speak really highly of the NBA champion’s son. He is already 6’8″ and has plenty of room for even more development in his game.

Memphis Offers 2020 SG Zach Harvey

Harvey currently has interest from a bevy of major schools including Kansas, Gonzaga, and Oregon

2021 5-star center Jerrell Colbert receives offer from Memphis

247Sports has Colbert listed as the 2nd best center in the class of 2021. The Houston-based center is receiving a lot of attention from Texas schools and his list of offers is quickly growing.

David Wingett Enters Transfer Portal

During a very short stint in Memphis, Wingett did not see the floor much due to a leg injury. The sharph shooting forward struggled to find his rhythm in the bluff city but likely will be a good fit somewhere. With the additions of guys like DJ Jeffries and Lester Quinones, the playing time picture was not looking up any time soon for Wingett.

Hardaway now has three scholarships available for the upcoming season and is strongly in pursuit of guards RJ Hampton and Boogie Ellis as well as big men Precious Achiuwa and Trendon Watford.
