Memphis Tigers class of 2019 recruitment updates

Trendon Watford

This 5-star forward was originally slated to announce his college decision last month, but several outside factors caused him to hold off. Right now his final 4 list of schools is Memphis, LSU, Alabama, and Indiana. He has not announced a specific decision date yet, but he has been using the cryptic message below on both Instagram and Twitter recently.

The most recent report from Adam Zagoria states that Watford is aiming to commit by early next week.

Watford recently participated in the Ballislife All-American game along with Tiger targets Precious Achiuwa and Boogie Ellis.

Boogie Ellis

Last week, the 4-star guard de-committed from Duke and has thrown a wrench into several team’s original recruitment plants. Every day more and more analysts are switching his crystal ball outlook to Memphis, who has been after Boogie and ranked high on his list through his previous decision date late last calendar year.

Ellis is a solid shooter but he also enjoys the ball in his hands and making plays for others. When labeled a point guard once in an interview, Boogie promptly corrected the reported to let them know that he is a “combo guard”.

RJ Hampton

After re-classifying from the class of 2020 to the class of 2019, RJ Hampton has been at the forefront of recruiting efforts for many teams.

Recently the crystal balls for 5-star guard RJ Hampton have trended towards Kansas and away from other schools including Memphis. When his father was asked if he would be able to play on the same team as Boogie Ellis, he responded with a positive. However, that opportunity seems more and more unlikely as each day passes.

The way many see it is that Hampton could go to Kansas and be the main focal point of Bill Self’s recruiting class, which currently has a pair of 4-stars and a 3-star player committed so far. If he were to come to Memphis, he would be sharing the spotlight with guys like DJ Jeffries and James Wiseman and whoever else Coach Hardaway adds to the upcoming class.

Lester Quinones

Tiger fans, mark your calendars for Friday afternoon, when Lester Quinones, a 4-star shooting guard will make his college decision. Right now he is reportedly down to Indiana and Memphis. Despite a recent interview with the Daily Memphian where he said that his IU visit was his favorite, the crystal balls for Quinones are trending in favor of Penny Hardaway and his Tigers.

Quinones would be a huge get for the Tigers. After 247Sports most recent rankings update, Quinones moved to 56th in the class of 2019 and his commitment would add to the growing list of top 100 talent that will debut for Memphis this year.
