5 star forward Precious Achiuwa makes official visit
Early this week, Memphis Tiger basketball recruit Precious Achiuwa made an official on-campus (and apparently on-Beale) visit to Memphis. Achiuwa is a 5 star SF prospect from Montverde Academy in Florida. He is a McDonald’s All-American and also played in the Nike Hoop World Summit, representing Team World.
Achiuwa is a highly sought after recruit, with schools like Kansas, North Carolina, and UConn heavily seeking him.
As most recruits do, Achiuwa had a photo shoot while visiting Memphis, and below is the product.
Former Tiger Antwann Jones visits Creighton
Freshman guard Antwann Jones transferred from the University of Memphis after completing one year under coach Penny Hardaway.
Jones averaged 4.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists for the Tigers in his lone season. He started in 6 of his 35 appearances for Memphis and was one of the more exciting, but inconsistent players on the roster.
Memphis lost to Creighton in the NIT in March. In that matchup, Jones scored 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
Rick Barnes trying to poach Memphis talent from Penny
So far, Penny Hardaway has built a fence around the Memphis area and signed all the players he has been after. This includes guys like James Wiseman and D.J. Jeffries. University of Tennessee coach Rick Barnes is trying to encroach on that territory is appears. Not that I can blame him, but going head’s up in a recruiting battle with Hardaway should be fun for all.
Matthew Murrell is a 6′ 4″ – 4 star shooting guard who attends Whitehaven High School. 247Sports has him ranked as a top 5 player in his class. Murrell is incredibly athletic and for a guard, plays a lot above the rim. I’ve seen him in person and was immediately impressed.
Kennedy Chandler is a 6’1″ point guard who is at Briarcrest Christian. He is a 4 star player who 247Sports has listed as the top player in the state for his class.
UALR Graduate transfer makes visit to Memphis
Rayjon Tucker looks like he could play any sport he puts his mind to. This dude is a stud athlete and looks every bit the part. The 6’5″ graduate transfer put on a show for folks inside the FedExForum last December against Penny Hardaway’s Tigers when he scored 29 points.
Tucker averaged 36.6 minutes per game last season and earned 20.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while shooting 41% from three.
Tucker is testing the waters to see if he wants to enter this Summer’s upcoming NBA draft or play another year of collegiate ball. Final Four team Auburn is also heavily involved in the recruitment of Tucker. Tucker’s visit to Memphis is taking place this weekend.
