It started as one of the most exciting free agent signings in Memphis Grizzlies history, how it ended was a totally different story.
In July of 2016, free agent Chandler Parsons – most recently with the Dallas Mavericks – signed a 4 year/$94 million deal with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Two plus seasons later, it appears that marriage has come to an end. On Sunday, Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim McMahon of ESPN reported that Chandler will leave the team indefinitely after only appearing in 3 games this season. He played slightly less than four quarters worth of basketball in 2018 for the Grizzlies – and none in 2019.
His lack of playing time was the consequence of his knees giving out on him again, and Grizzlies management purposefully keeping him on the inactive roster with the very vague status of “return from injury management”.
Over the past few weeks, Chandler has been passively calling out the Grizzlies management on social media with cryptic tweets and Instagram posts.
Also of note, it was reported earlier by the Commercial Appeal that Parsons was unwilling to accept a G League assignment with the Memphis Hustle. This may have sped up the process that has brought us to inevitable ending that we are now witnessing.
