Last night in a 118-105 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Kemba Walker passed Dell Curry to became the franchise scoring leader for the Charlotte Hornets (this includes the time frame when they were the Bobcats). He scored 21 points and now has achieved 9,841 total points in his career, all scored with the Charlotte franchise.
Despite having been the topic of trade rumors earlier in the season, Kemba has continued to be the face of Charlotte basketball throughout his career. As the leading scorer in his franchise’s history, this two time All-Star joins a list of very elite names.
With the help of Wikipedia and Basketball-Reference, we have visibility of the company that Kemba now keeps. The list below is a compilation of the leading scorers for active NBA franchises.
Kemba is one of nine NBA players who lead a franchise in scoring and are currently active in the NBA. Of that list, Brook Lopez and current Hornet teammate Dwight Howard are the only ones who do not play with the team that they hold the franchise record with.
Of this particular list, Walker is in 29th position, ahead of only Pelicans’ superstar Anthony Davis. The good news for Walker and his legacy is that this list is full of current and future HOF’ers. Many people forget that Kemba is only 27 years old and has several more dominant playing years left in him. Will he catch any others on this list? Time will tell.
